'I hope if I’m remembered not only as a tennis player, but as a person behind…' Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal share an eerily similar vision on how they want to be remembered

Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have created a legacy for themselves in the sport they played. The two players achieved great heights.

While Federer retired two years ago with 20 Grand Slam titles to his credit, Nadal is still out there fighting to add one more Grand Slam title to his already big cabinet of 22 trophies. But the two players seemed to care little about these titles when asked about how they wanted to be remembered.

Both the stalwarts have an eerily similar vision about how they want people to remember them once they step away from the tennis court. As soon as Nadal heard the question, he was quick to point out that he wants everyone to remember him as a good person. The Spaniard said that while no one can take away the legacy as a tennis player for him, but his legacy as a human being is dearer.

At the end what will make me feel proud and happy is when I leave this world, if the tournament directors, the people who work at the tournaments, staff, ATP, say good things about who I was on the tour, or who I am as a person more than a tennis player. Because as a tennis player, at the end, we have the titles, we have the achievements and that's how it is. Rafael Nadal said in reply to the question about how he wants to be remembered.

Roger Federer echoes his dear friend Rafael Nadal’s sentiments

Roger Federer echoed his dear friend Rafael Nadal‘s sentiments while replying to the question about how he wants people to remember him. The Swiss legend, who is often praised for his personality, said that he wants people to remember him more as a personality than as a tennis player.

The 43-year-old also said that if he can be a good role model for kids around the world, that would make him happy too. It is worth mentioning that Federer is among the most loved tennis players across the globe. Athletes from different backgrounds admire the Swiss legend, and that is what Federer wants.

If I can be remembered more as the personality rather than just a player, that would be great. And if I was a good role model for kids, that would make me happy too… And it would be nice, like Rafa said, if the people are happy to see us again. Not like ‘oh no, that guy again’. Roger Federer said.

Notably, the two stalwarts made these comments while shooting a commercial for Louis Vuitton for the brand’s latest campaign, Core Values. Nadal and Federer also talked about their rivalry and other tennis-related things.
