OU Softball: Oklahoma Gets Back on Track With Dominant Win Over Texas A&M Commerce

True freshman duo Kasidi Pickering and Ella Parker set the tone in the first inning, blasting OU (19-1) past the visiting Lions (5-17).

Pickering opened the scoring with a clutch two-out double, putting Oklahoma up 2-0.

Texas A&M Commerce then decided to intentionally walk Jayda Coleman to pitch to Parker, a decision the visitors soon regretted.

Parker roped a ball into the jet stream that blows to right field, firing a laser into the bleachers to extend the lead to 5-0. The three-run shot was Parker’s fourth home run of the year.

Cydney Sanders’ hard-hit single in the second inning was converted into a run when Alyssa Brito drove her in on a sacrifice fly. It was the only run of the second inning, but the OU offense caught fire again in the third.

Pickering delivered again, this time driving in pinch-hitter Riley Ludlam with a no-out double to put OU up 7-0.

Coleman immediately traded places with Pickering, reaching base with an RBI-single before advancing to second due to a fielding error.

Hannah Coor pinch ran for Coleman, and got to show off her speed. Avery Hodge stretched a bloop hit into a double, plating Coor to extend the lead to 9-0.

Left-handed pitcher Kierston Deal enjoyed an efficient outing, striking out five batters while allowing just one hit in three innings.

Paytn Monticelli entered for Deal in relief in the fourth inning and picked up right where she left off. She retired the first five batters she faced in order, firing two strikeouts of her own while also giving up a single hit and a walk. 

The Sooners will open Big 12 play for the final time this weekend, hosting Iowa State for a three-game series. Oklahoma’s first contest against the Cyclones is Friday at 6 p.m.
