The father and agent of Basel midfielder Renato Veiga has confirmed that AC Milan have shown an interest in his son, but have not yet made an offer for him.

This season, Milan have almost agreed to tactically expose themselves to their opponents in the name of playing a more attacking side, a calculated risk but one that should not resist next season because the management is already evaluating different profiles in midfield.

Youssouf Fofana of Monaco and the French national team is certainly among the profiles appreciated by Geoffrey Moncada as per multiple reports, but Calciomercato.com are among the sources to claim that the 20-year-old Portuguese player Renato Veiga is also being closely watched.

Nelson Veiga – the father-agent of Renato – has given an exclusive interview to Numero Diez talking about the future of his client and confirming Milan’s interest. His comments were relayed by PianetaMilan.

“Renato Veiga is very ambitious. The idea has always been to join Basel, have a good season and help the club achieve its goals,” he said.

“At the moment his recovery from the injury is progressing well, he has already started running again. Fortunately, the damage he suffered from the sprained ankle wasn’t serious, but it was annoying.

“He’s had the opportunity to grow and show off to bigger clubs. At the end of the season he wants to take the next step, if the conditions suit him and Basel. He is now capable of playing at a higher level.”

Is it true that Milan are interested?

“What I know is that Milan have been following Renato Veiga for a long time. Obviously with the opening of the transfer window they could try to make a move, now they are still interested and are observing his performances. However, there is nothing yet concrete, no official offer from Milan.”

And other clubs?

“There are various clubs from the top five leagues with which I have already had contact. We’ll see what will happen… There are clubs from Ligue 1, the Premier League and an additional Serie A club [in addition to Milan] that have been interested for a while.

“Even during the winter transfer window there were discussions but, in agreement with the player, we decided to end the season in Basel and postpone everything to the summer, closing off all possibilities. The next few weeks will be important.”
